Yakisugi, often labeled as Shou Sugi Ban with Chinese translation, is a wood cladding made of charred cypress from traditional Japanese practice.
Pros
- weather-resistant
- avoid insect infestation
- higher fire retardency
- dimensionally stable
- original charred colour can be retained for 40 to 80 years
Cons
- brushed color will weather and required optional maintainence like re-oiling or replacement
- only Japnese cypress can reacts for the high quality from the tradition
